An attorney has withdrawn his candidacy for a Kettering Municipal Court judgeship.

Karl George Kordalis confirmed Friday he is no longer seeking election.

He did not provide a reason why he decided not to run.

Without Kordalis, candidate Patricia Campbell will run unopposed for a six-year term in the Nov. 4 general election.

Although Kordalis withdrew from the race, his name will still appear on the ballot because he withdrew his candidacy after the Aug. 25 deadline, according to the Montgomery County Board of Elections. There will be notices at polling places and included with absentee ballots that votes placed for withdrawn candidates will not be counted.

As long as Campbell receives at least one vote, she will replace longtime Judge Frederick Dressel, who is retiring when his term expires at the end of the year, Kettering Clerk of Courts Rob Scott said.

Dressel has served as a judge for nearly a dozen years. He was named acting judge and later appointed to the bench in 2014 to replace Judge Robert Moore who died in office.

He earned his law degree from Ohio State University’s Moritz College of Law and since 1993 practiced law at Ruffolo, Stone & Dressel, according to Court News Ohio, a service of the Ohio Supreme Court.

The other Kettering judge, James Long, is in his last term because judges in Ohio are not able to assume judicial office after reaching 70, Scott said.
